Editor's Note

The Joint Commission on October 18 announced that Ohio Specialty Surgical Suites in North Canton, Ohio, is the first ambulatory surgical center to achieve its Advanced Certification for Total Hip and Total Knee Replacement.

The advanced certification focuses on:

  • The continuum of care through all phases of the procedure.
  • Education of the patient on all phases of care.
  • Shared decision making that includes the patient.
  • Consistent communication and collaboration between all healthcare providers involved in the patient’s care.

Achieving advanced certification is a significant recognition of the center's coordinated care that addresses patient needs from preoperative consultation through postoperative follow-up care, the Joint Commission says.
